Delhi Police have released Neha Bora, national president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), after detaining her earlier in the morning.
She confirmed her release in a message published on the social media platform X, reports Hindustan Times.
In her post on X, Bora said, “The police had taken my phone. Now I have received my phone back. Women have also been released from Maidan Garhi police station.”
Bora, a prominent figure in the agitation seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, was taken into custody during a law enforcement crackdown ahead of the scheduled “Jantar Mantar 2.0” protest.
With Jantar Mantar cordoned off and permission for the gathering refused, Bora, activist Yogendra Yadav, and lawyer Prashant Bhushan spearheaded a march proceeding from Jor Bagh towards Dilli Haat-INA, reports The Times of India.
Following her detention, demonstrators encircled and tried to obstruct the police bus transporting Bora, raising slogans and demanding her immediate release.
Her detention occurred after the arrests of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
Simultaneously, police conducted widespread detentions across Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal and Saurabh Bharadwaj were detained near Jantar Mantar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress leaders were detained outside their Delhi residence, and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was taken to Chhatrasal Stadium.
By 6:45pm, 7,000 people had been detained across Delhi, preventing any protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar until evening, reports The Times of India.
Authorities deployed extensive security infrastructure, including body cameras, drones, facial-recognition systems, security zones, and detention centres, while preparing transport buses for detainees.
